Modern Woman Making Waves: Amelia Plumb

Bay Area Photographer Amelia Plumb (aka: Amy) knows a thing or two about finding a passion-meets-parenthood mix. After a college Sociology major, a career in software sales, and becoming a mother to two daughters, Amelia went back to her love of a high school photography class. (She had also received  rave reviews from friends and family of photos she took of her girls!). How to turn her dream gig into a flourishing business? Research, practice, educate: she read about professional photography (as many books as could fit on a Kindle), practiced with her DSLR camera constantly, and watched a crazy number of online tutorials to teach herself about editing photos. Six years of experience and experimentation, and Amelia has built a successful business, blending creativity with flexibility. The work she loves most includes photographing kids, women in business, weddings, and homes. She also has the fun assignment of working for I Heart Radio, snapping shots of celebs at concerts and events. Her photos appear in magazines like Us Weekly and on Daily Mail and E! News Online. Amy can often be found with friend and clothing designer, Lesley Evers (MWMW feature, November, 2016 ) as her regular photographer. These two share numerous laughs and great ideas as they feature “real women” in “real life” settings during fashion shoots with Lesley’s beautiful designs.

Amelia finds joy in telling a story through her work. We are  happy to hear more about her own story.  And now…it’s time for HER Close-Up…Welcome Amelia!

What is on the top of your bucket list?
A trip to the Maldives for vacation or work (or both).  It looks like the dreamiest place on earth.

Who would you invite to your ideal Girl’s Night?
My “mompreneur” girlfriends. Being moms and business owners we have so much in common.. #thestruggleisreal
What is your go-to piece of clothing?
On a casual day, it’s my favorite Lulu Lemon zip up hoodie and a pair of comfy jeans. When going somewhere special, it’s a fabulous Lesley Evers dress!

What do you sing when you are alone in your car?
Country songs, for sure.

What was the best compliment you have received?
The compliments I love the most are the ones my kids give…”you’re the best mom ever”

How has your life been different than you imagined?
I always imagined my parents would be around for the big moments in life (marriage and kids). I lost my mother and step father in my late 20’s. It was devastating and it’s been a huge challenge to navigate adult life without them.

Who is your celebrity crush?
I’m not sure I have one right now, but as a kid I had two celebrity crushes: John Travolta and Ricky Schroder. I recently got to meet Ricky and hang out with him for an evening, it was so fun!! I feel very fortunate to have a job that allows me to hang out with celebrities from time to time #pinchme

What is your guiltiest pleasure?
My daily hot chocolate (with almond milk)..and a little whipped cream.

What is the first thing you notice when you meet someone?
Probably their shoes! I have a thing for well designed shoes, and I believe that what we wear on our feet is a good reflection of our personal style.

What is your most-used word? (And what word do you wish everyone would stop using?)
I don’t really have a most-used word, but I tend to over use emoticons in my texts and e-mails. I know it’s a problem, but I just want to let people know that I’m always smiling =) And, I don’t necessarily dislike any commonly used words but when someone asks “where is she at”? I want to tell them that they don’t need to put the “at” at the end...just ask “where is she?” I guess I wish people would stop using improper English. Ha!
What is your favorite museum?
The Louvre, in Paris.
