Bookmarked: Big Magic
Eat ,Pray, Love, Create... “So this, I believe, is the central question upon which all creative living hinges: Do you have the courage to bring forth the treasures that are hidden within you?” — Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic
I first discovered Elizabeth Gilbert when her memoir Eat, Pray, Love became a breakout bestseller (and great reading for all women in and around midlife!). I loved how she articulated such a personal exploration in a way that resonated for so many women of different circumstances - It goes to show how we are each on our own road of self-discovery...and how la dolce vita of Italy, the Indian art of devotion and discovery, and the romance of Bali appeal to everyone!
Her latest book, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear illustrates how creativity and inspiration have worked in her life — and how these magical forces can also go to work in ours. It was a profound and instrumental read for me, one that prompted me to uncover my “strange jewels” and get this blog out into the world. Her wonderful storytelling writing style coupled with great personal growth insights makes for a fun and easy read, but it also takes you deep. A very powerful, practical, and inspiring book, and - for me - the right message at the right time! Highly recommend a read…who knows what it might inspire.
Ms. Gilbert also shares a fabulous podcast called Magic Lessons, featuring both “struggling creatives” and guest experts. You can find episodes here.
“The universe buries strange jewels deep within us all, and then stands back to see if we can find them.” I hope you will discover your strange jewels, and share them with the world!
