Colleen Saidman Yee has traveled an amazing path to her wonderful book, Yoga for Life, and she shares her personal journey with honesty and joy.
Part memoir, and part yoga instruction, the book will enhance your day-to-day self AND your yoga practice. Yoga forLife pairs different periods of Ms. Yee’s life with suggested sequences — each reflecting a theme based on her experiences during that time. The distinctive yoga asanas (who can resist a sequence called ‘Loving Kindness Toward Ourselves”!) echo the teachings of each chapter, and the parallels are enlightening.
While Colleen’s life has included highs and lows not everyone experiences (successful model! heroin addict!), her wisdom helps to make sense for any of us who have lived a crazy assortment of adventures. And who hasn’t! Her story feels close to the heart, and confirming, as she illustrates that all of our experiences, as varied as they may be, are a part of the journey to find yourself. The thread throughout the book that helps tie it all together is the practice of yoga - both on and off the mat. The connections between life and yoga practice are so encouraging for any reader — and certainly resonated for this modern midlife yogi!
