“My deepest desire is to share the life-transforming skills and experience of self-care and group support with those in the greatest need…” -- James S. Gordon, MD
I had a wonderful opportunity recently to attend an interactive lecture presented by Dr. James Gordon of the Center for Mind-Body Medicine. His mission is to make self-awareness, self care, and group support central to all healthcare; with ground-breaking programs for training health professionals, and the education of our children. Throughout the four-hour event we were able to experience several different meditation techniques -- a practice I am trying to make a habit, as the benefits of increased peace, focus, and attentiveness serve me well. Interesting conversations about self-care as it relates not just to ourselves, but furthering the practice to take the concept of self-care out into the world and do good with it. This organization is doing amazing work. They are touching numerous communities. In the session I attended, I was particularly intrigued by the focus on our ‘second brain’ - the ENS (enteric nervous system, a complex system of about 100 million nerves found in the lining of the gut). The information about the intimate connection between our brain and gut is fascinating...and makes so much sense! A good reminder about what we feed our stomach, also feeds our mind. This is amazing organization and I am looking forward to following them!
